Summary

Permission was granted in November 2024 for the development of five mews-style modern dwellings on land to the rear of Nos. 16-18 West Street. The Site is located within the Farnham Town Centre Conservation area and within the setting of a number of listed buildings. HCUK Group provided heritage advise from the outset, initially advising on the opportunities and constraints presented by the Site, preparing a pre-application Heritage Statement (worked up into Heritage Impact Assessment for submission as part of the planning application) and also provided ongoing review and commentary on design iterations, which ultimately led to the roof forms adopted on the approved scheme.

Key issues:

  • Impact of the proposals on the character and appearance of the conservation area

  • Impact of the proposals on below ground archaeology

  • The impact of the proposals on the setting (and thereby the significance) of nearby designated heritage assets, including the grade II* listed St Andrew's Church
