Summary
The Site was in a semi-rural village edge location and within the buffer of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area and therefore it was a requirement to create SANG within the Site. The design was planned around retaining much of the green framework of hedgerows and mature field boundary trees and the existing landscape pattern defined the character areas within the Site. Proposed enhancements of Bens Wood to the north included enhanced management and creation of recreation routes as required for SANG provision, and connected to the green infrastructure corridors through the Site. A woodland framework to the east part of the Site was retained and enhanced as public open space as a naturalistic wooded parkland with path routes, informal play and a foraging trail.
Following planning consent, HCUK undertook the detailed planting design to discharge planning conditions and provides continued support during the implementation phase.
