Summary

The landscape was integrated with the sustainable drainage strategy with the provision of planted raingardens to intercept run-off from the building. The design included biodiverse roofs for the main and ancillary building and wildlife friendly ornamental species were included in the plant mixes. Our landscape team developed the hard and soft landscape details for the scheme to discharge planning conditions.
Trees and plants were selected that were resilient to the maritime and roof top conditions and appropriate for the local context. Coastal type rockery plants were proposed on the biodiverse roofs, to be established on various depth of substrate, and incorporating varied habitat features such as sand pockets and course gravel beds as non-planted areas that are valuable to wildlife, as well as deadwood and bee / nesting boxes. The project was granted planning consent in July 2024.
